about the punkary

So, what is the Punkary? Well - to put it simply - it's a shop. A shop that sells things. Things that sometimes stick. Things that might be slightly offensive. To some. Not so much to others. Basically, it's whatever I make to sell, if we're going to be honest here. And that's a big part of it. Honesty. The Punkary - at its most basic - is an honest shop. If something's defective, I won't sell it or if I do, it'll be clearly stated. If something's bitchin'? I'll say so. If I like something? I say so. If I don't? Well - it won't be on here. Right now, I'm utilizing Etsy because, let's face it, that's where people shop.

But why "The Punkary"? Back in the day, a lot of shops ended in "ary" or "ery". Apothecary, Chandlery... etc. And ya gotta have a name if you want to have a shop and believe me - coming up with a name out of the blue is harder than it sounds. Coming up with a name that no one else has yet is even harder. So... there ya go.

Now the punk part. See... "punk" is a subculture, a way of thinking - how you look at the world. It's not all black and red plaid, spikes and mohawks. There's that too but that's not all there is to it. Basically, it's doing whatever you feel is right - no matter what. Standing up for what you believe in, damn the consequences. Antiestablishmentarianism - anti-fascism - anti-a whole lot of isms. If you can't find something, make it. Don't feed the corporate machine, feed the small businesses. Those are the real people. Yes, people work for corporations and everything but they aren't the ones benefiting from it, not really. So, support your small businesses. Wear what you want, damn dress codes and stuck-up pompous prick driven societal norms. Break chains, resist control... all of this is part of being punk. If you want to wear pretty pastels and have half your head shaved? Do it. That doesn't make you less of a person or somehow less qualified to run a business, calculate someone's taxes, or be someone's doctor. Have tattoos, be pierced, those things are just glazing - they don't determine what you are capable of. But you should be able to express yourself how you want, when you want, with whatever you want. (Within reason here... don't get dramatic, now.)

Okay, before I get preachy - I'll cut this short. Basically - not everything you see in the shop is going to be full-tilt hardcore punk rock all the way. But everything is going to be something I like, something I want to make, so it's going to be something I put the time and effort into making. And if I don't think it's up to snuff? Yeah - it won't be there. Or... it might be there but like... it's slightly off and it's like, I'd be okay wearing it but... it straddles the line with being okay to sell, if that makes sense.
